Lilanga Women's 7's League kicks off
The Swaziland Rugby Union announced today the launching of the 'Lilanga Women's 7's League' Rugby Union head development coach Naomi du Pont made the announcement at the Rugby Union offices today. "To start we will have four Rugby Clubs playing in this the first Lilanga 7's League, but the next round of the Lilanga Women's 7's League we will be fielding a further two Rugby Clubs. The four Rugby Clubs playing on Friday are; The Elephant's, The Wolve's, The Vondo's, and The Ranger's" said du Pont.
"We want to raise rugby awareness for women at grass roots level and with this goal in mind we have been working with all the Rugby Clubs to develop rugby for girls at U/12's, U/14's and U/16's age groups. We are seeing this strategy now paying dividends with more and more girls playing rugby. The Lilanga Women's 7's League will now give young girls something to strive for and want to be a part of. The feedback for the establishment of the Lilanga League from all the Rugby clubs has been very, very positive. the clubpresidents, coaches and players can see that if they play in the Lilanga League they will play at the Mavuso Sports Ground along with the boys and adults tournaments. This is a great insentive for any player. There is also something to play for, we will be launching the Lilanga Women's 7's League Trophy on May 22nd following the Malayisha National League fixtures. Lilanga League players will receive rugby kit donated by the SOSKitaid Programme. As Captain of the Elephants team Nompumele Nhleko said "We're playing real rugby now" I think that sums up the feeling of all the girlsparticipating in the Lilanga Women's 7's League" said du Pont
