Rugby Union kicks off Community Rugby Programme
On Sunday the Rugby Union kicked off the Community Rugby Programme with a game played between Ngwazini and Bhekinkhosi played at the Bhekinkhosi Sports Ground. "The Rugby Union have been holding Rugby Coaching Days at various Community Centres throughout the country and the response has been great. At every coaching session we have had over fourty players of all ages both male and female wanting to know more about the game of Rugby" said du Pont.
The first Inter Community Tag Rugby game kicked off in high spirits on a perfect day for Rugby. Both sides fielded both male and female players with the eldest being Mrs. Thandi Zwane aged fifty six playing for Ngwazini and the youngest being Ms. Zomo Matsebula aged thirteen playing for Bhekinkhosi. Niether side had the upper egde, but it was Ngwazini who had the least handling errors and went in at half time in the lead by 30 - 10. Bhekinkhosi came out firing in the second half and scored three quick tries to bring the score to 30 - 25. Good defending kept the score at 30 - 25 until the last three minutes of the game when Ngwazini ran in a try against the run of play to end up 35 - 25 victors at the final whistle. du Pont thanked both teams for their efforts and commitment and assured them there will be plenty of opportunities to show their Rugby skills at the Inter Community Rugby games to follow over the coming months.
